Cabin Manager ULRIK KYHN: THE HEART BEHIND THE CRJ CABIN

ULRIK KYHN

Ulrik Kyhn’s aviation journey spans decades of change, challenges, and connection. Now Cabin Manager at Global Reach Aviation, he shares how 25 years of flying with the CRJ has shaped his perspective, and why the human side of flying still matters most.

MHIRJ: Ulrik, can you share a memorable moment from your early days of flying?

Ulrik: One was flying into Berlin on New Year’s Eve, 1999. We landed, changed into party clothes and joined thousands celebrating under the fireworks at Brandenburger Tor.

MHIRJ: How has your career evolved?

Ulrik: I started as cabin crew and worked my way up to cabin manager. Every step has been shaped by learning, teamwork and growing with the job.

MHIRJ: What do you enjoy most about flying, and serving on the same aircraft for 25 years?

Ulrik: It’s about connection. The CRJ’s size allows you to truly engage with passengers, so you’re not just a face in the aisle. You get to create a personal experience every time.

MHIRJ: What are some unique features of a CRJ that you appreciate?

Ulrik: Its size, absolutely. Not just because it’s manageable, but because it allows you to stay close to what matters most, the guests.

MHIRJ: What challenges have you faced over the last 25 years in the industry?

Ulrik: Flying during COVID was unlike anything we’d ever experienced. Masks, restrictions, uncertainty. And then came the full shutdown, it tested everyone. But we adapted, and we made it through.

MHIRJ: What safety measures do you prioritize while flying?

Ulrik: Safety always comes first. We follow every checklist, no shortcuts. And on a personal note, I always wear discreet hearing protection. It makes a difference long term.

MHIRJ: Has your perspective on flying changed over the years? How?

Ulrik: Yes. I’ve gone from working in scheduled flights to now doing ad hoc charters. It’s a different rhythm more dynamic, more varied.

MHIRJ: Why did you decide to start in Global Reach Aviation?

Ulrik: My connection with Captain Jacob Rasmussen. His drive to build something different in this industry was contagious. It wasn’t just about running a company. It was about creating something with heart.

MHIRJ: What advice would you give to new pilots or cabin crew starting their careers?

Ulrik: Stay curious, stay professional and always bring good energy onboard.
